Historical Note

Union County, one of the smalliest counties in Indiana, was established in 1821 from land taken from parts of Fayette, Franklin and Wayne counties and named for the resulting "union." The small town of Liberty serves as the county seat. Fertile farmland drew early settlers to the area and agriculture continues to be the county's primary industry.
