Historical Note

Steuben County, located in the northeast corner of Indiana, was organized in 1837 and named for Baron Frederick von Steuben, a Prussian military officer who came to America and served the patriot cause during the Revolutionary War. Angola, the county seat, was founded in 1838. Pokagon State Park, located on the shores of Lake James near Angola, became Indiana's fifth state park when it was established in 1925.
