This collection comprises an autograph book, which belonged to William Shaw in 1883, containing the names of his colleagues and staff members of the 53rd Indiana General Assembly as well as the individuals home town and position. A few politicians also included their occupations or personal notes.

Biographical Note

William Shaw was born December 1, 1822, in Mansfield, Ohio. He married Mary Gilchrist in 1848. After she died in 1852, he married Nancy Thompson in 1854 and they had five children: Charity, Stephen, James, Della, and Alexander. Shaw served as the representative from Marshall County in the 53rd Indiana General Assembly in 1883. Mr. Shaw lived in Marmont (now Culver), Indiana.
