Biographical Note/Historical Note/Administrative History

The town of Speedway in Wayne Township, Marion County, Indiana started as a residentiatl suberb, which took its name from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was incorporated as a town in 1926 with a population of 507 people. The notice requesting incorporation was posted at three public places, all located on Main Street in Speedway. Those places were: William Rosner's Drug Store, Joseph Aulback Barber Shop, and Beeler & Hodgson Garage. The petition for incorporation was presented to the Marion County Board of Commissioners on June 26, 1926. In 2010, Speedway had a population of 11,812 people.
