This collection includes an April 28, 1851 handwritten letter by Elizabeth White from Lawrenceburg, Indiana and sent to her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Jonathan Houck. In the letter Mrs. White mentions the loss of all her belonging in a fire, news regarding family members, and asks if she may "fetch" her bed and come and stay with Nancy.

Biographical / Historical
Elizabeth Bradley was born in 1785 and was the second wife of Thomas A. White, son of Revolutionary soldier and Boston Tea Party member Thomas White. Around 1836, they moved from Pennsylvania to Elizabethtown, Ohio and from there to Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, Indiana. In 1851, Mrs. White moved to Putnam County, Indiana to live with her daughter Nancy White Houck. She passed away at the age of 69 on December 29, 1854.
