Luther Dana Waterman wrote to Senator Francis A. Osbourn on October 5, 1899, from Indianapolis. He wrote: "I have read, with deep interest, your admirable sketch of the 20th Ind. Vol. Inf. and its doings during the civil war." He mentions his own book, "Phantoms of Life," of which 700 copies were published for his friends. Luther wrote that he "enjoyed my visit to New York when three young ladies had me well cared for and helped me get rid of my vacation money."

Biographical Note

Luther Dana Waterman was born on November 21, 1830 in Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia. He was the son of Joseph Waterman and Susan Dana. He was the author of "Phantoms of Life" originally published in 1883. He died in 1918.

Francis A. Osbourn was a Pennsylvania Senator born during March 1845. He died on January 20, 1901 and is buried in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
