Scope and Contents

Two booklets in this collection were published by the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Gaston, Indiana. The first is a souvenir program published for the February 21, 1904 dedication of their third building. It includes etchings and photographs of people as well as local business advertisements.

The second booklet is the annual financial report for the year ending April 3, 1911. Reverend George H. Redding was pastor. The report lists names of subscribers with the amount pledged and amount paid. For the year, two dollars was donated anonymously.

Historical Note

The First Methodic Episcopal Church of Gaston, Indiana began in 1843 meeting in homes and schools. In 1854-1855, their first church was built in Delaware County. In 1904, when the church published this souvenir program, that building was owned by the Christian Church. The second church building was constructed in 1894, and was destroyed by fire on December 3, 1902. The third building, costing $10,000, was dedicated on February 21, 1904.
