The letter is addressed to John C. Shaffer, Pres. Evening Post, Chicago, Illinois, and is dated December 23, 1909. John M. Studebaker expresses his regret that he is not able to attend the testimonial banquet in honor of Mr. Shaffer on December thirtieth. Mr. Studebaker wrote that he sent one thousand invitations to "my friends all over the country and especially to the many old employees of our factory." More than 300 of these people worked for Studebaker from 20 to 45 years.
