Scope and Contents
This collection contains a typewritten copy of Mahlon Slutz's reminiscences of his service with the 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Slutz's reminiscences begin with his first attempt to enlist in the army in December, 1861 and his eventual enlistment with the 107th on August 11, 1862. Slutz mentioned battles and skirmishes he and his regiment were part of and shared his experiences at Gettysburg, including his wounding, capture and escape from the Confederate Army.

Biographical Note
Mahlon Slutz was born on September 12, 1845 in Ohio to William and Anna Slutz. He enlisted in Company D, 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 11, 1862. He took part in several battles and skirmishes, including Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Honey Hill and Swift Creek in South Carolina. He mustered out with his company on July 10, 1865. After the war, he became a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Slutz passed away at the age of 84 on April 10, 1929.
