This collection includes two sets of photocopies, one as a bound volume, of Mahala T. Shaw's 1871 diary copied from the original in the possession of Shaw's grandniece, Mrs. Roy F. (Esther) Gregg. In the diary, Shaw recounts her daily activities while living in Battle Ground, Indiana and includes names of family and friends who visited, shopping, books, gardening, household chores, and church and social activities. There is also a copy of a January 25, 1874 letter sent to Shaw from her niece Mahala Shaw Warble.

Biographical Note
Mahala T. Shaw was born November 19, 1810 to John and Jane Shaw. She lived in Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County, Indiana and died on October 9, 1877.
