This collection includes diaries, correspondence, official church documents, maps, and newspaper clippings from George Upfold in Indianapolis, Indiana and the United States, ranging from 1822 to 1926, regarding official church business and family matters.
There is also an oversize folder with a document ordaining George Upfold dated March 6, 1828 and two copies of a map of Europe with text of the Treaty of Versailles (circa 1919).

Biographical Note
George Upfold was born on May 7, 1796 in Guilford, Surrey, England. He immigrated to the United States and served as an Episcopal priest in New York City (1820-1831); Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1831-1850); and Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana (1850-1854). He became bishop of the Episcopal Church Diocese of Indiana (1849-1865). The Upfolds resided in Indianapolis (1857-1872).
He and his wife Sarah Sophia (1785-1880) had two children: Sophia Bicker (1827-1919) and Emily L. (1836-1915). George Upfold died on August 26, 1872 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
His daugther Sophia married Joseph Jenkins Bingham (1815-1896) in 1852 and they had at least nine children. She died on August 22, 1919 in Harbor Springs, Michigan and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
