James M. Reeder collection

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: S1102

Scope and Contents

This collection contains information relating to the Wabash and Erie Canal. There are three receipts from 1850 giving various amounts for work on the Canal. A letter from J. L. Williams, dated December 23, 1856, sums up the repair expenses for the year. Two hand-written sheets list property belonging to the trust on District No. 5, Wabash and Erie Canal, dated January 1, 1859. Some of the items listed are shovels, nails, crow bar, picks, wooden buckets, and wheel barrows. There are notations as to where the things were left, such as Covington, Montezuma, and Coal Creek. This hand-written list has also been typed on two pages. The total value is $820.95. There is a typed letter, dated February 19, 1851, from Thomas Dowling, Trustee, enclosing two orders of the Board of Trustees to "create uniformity in the repair service and to avoid the multiplication of small accounts."

There is also an oversize land grant belonging to Reeder in Winamac, Indiana in 1849 (OB181).
