Scope and Contents

This collection contains letters, poems, memoirs and funeral address of the Pabody family. It contains two original letters from Rep. William Graham of the twenty-fifth Congress to Ezra F. Pabody. The other letters are copies of the originals.

Biographical Note

Ezra F. Pabody was born June 21, 1789 in New York. He later moved to Vernon, Indiana where he worked as a physician. He served on the Legislative Assembly of the State from 1828-1830 and again in 1833, 1838, and 1839. He served as Associate Judge from 1831-1832 and was elected Probate Judge in 1841 where he served two consecutive terms. After that he was elected to the Court of Common Pleas. He married Mabel Butler on October 15, 1820 and together they had seven children. Ezra F. Pabody died in 1871.

Horatio C. Newcomb was born in Pennsylvania in 1822 and was the son-in-law of Ezra F. Pabody. He was the mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana from 1849-1851, president of the State Board of Sinking Fund Commissioners, a member of the Indiana State Senate and House of Representatives, a judge of the Superior Court, and a Supreme Court Commissioner.

E.B. Newcomb was born in Indiana in 1854 and was the grandson of Ezra F. Pabody and the son of Horatio C. Newcomb and Eliza Pabody Newcomb. He later moved to Pasadena, California.
