Biographical Note
Elizabeth R. (McRae) New was the second wife of John C. New, Treasurer of the United States (1875-1876) under President Grant and U.S. Consul General, London, England, (1889-1893) and the mother of Senator Harry S. New. New was born in Louisiana on February 4, 1845 and died in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 19, 1935.
