This collection contains photocopies of James W. Thompson's papers ranging from 1863 to 1874 regarding property he developed at New Elizabeth (now Lizton), Indiana. The copies include the warranty deed of his purchase of 309 acres around New Elizabeth; a plat and description of Thompson's second addition to the town; and two receipts.

Biographical Note
James W. Thompson was born in 1827 in Kentucky and settled in Hendricks County, Indiana in 1842. He married Elizabeth Jane Hale (1827-1866) on December 10, 1845 and they had 8 children. On January 10, 1893, Thompson purchased 309 acres of land surrounding New Elizabeth (now Lizton), Indiana and later enlarged the town by developing three additions. He lived in Lizton until his death on September 13, 1900.
