Biographical Note

Bess [Bessie] Virginia Hicks Ehrmann was born in Rockport, Indiana on December 21, 1879 to Royal S. and Rachel Ann (Britton) Hicks, the youngest of four children. She attended two years of college, possibly at the New England Conservatory. She married Calder [Calden] De Bruler Ehrmann on June 23, 1902 in Spencer, and they had three children. She was a dramatic director and wrote plays, pageants and historical sketches and books, with an emphasis on Abraham Lincoln. She died on February 20, 1963 and is buried in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport, Indiana.
