Scope and Contents
This collection is one item, a certificate issued by Thomas A. Hendricks, Governor of the State of Indiana, “To all who shall see these Presents” authorizing John B. Cromer to serve as a Notary Public in Washington County. The Governor signed the document on January 18, 1875. His signature is very neat and legible. John E. Neff, Secretary of State, also signed on the front of the certificate. A large green seal of the State of Indiana as well as a black and white picture are on the front. The pictures show a buffalo being shot by an arrow, although the two pictures are not exactly the same.
On the back side, John B. Cromer signed it on February 20, 1875, in the presence of the Clerk of Washington Circuit Court.

Historical Note
Governor Thomas Andrews Hendricks (1819-1885) was the 16th governor of Indiana from 1873 to 1877. He authorized John B. Cromer as a Notary Public for Washington County, Indiana, on January 18, 1875. Besides his signature on this certificate, there is the signature of John E. Neff, Secretary of State.
