This collection contains a transcript and audiotape reel of an oral history interview with Dana L. Blank, conducted by Susan Bell for the Indiana State Library on October 19, 1973. Blank discusses her philosophy on recreation and corrections, the recreation programs she instituted at the Indiana Girls’ School, and the co-recreational activities with the Rockville Training Center and the Henryville Boy’s School.

Biographical Note
Dana L. Blank was born in Batesville, Indiana. She received a degree in Recreation from Purdue University and then joined the Indiana Department of Correction in 1968 as the first Recreational Director for the Indiana Girls' School until 1974 when she became Assistant Superintendent of the Indiana Women's Prison. In 1991, Blank became Superintendent of the Indiana Women's Prison, and in 2006, the first state-wide Director of Female Adult and Juvenile Programs, retiring in 2007. The University of Indianapolis awarded Blank an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree and the Indiana Correctional Association recognized her with the 2002 Distinguished Service Award. In 2003, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care awarded Blank with their Program of the Year Award and in the 2006, the Indiana Correctional Association gave Blank their Distinguished Service Award, and the Public Action in Correctional Effort/Offender Aid and Restoration's Person of the Year Award. In 2008, the Indiana General Assembly passed Indiana House Concurrent Resolution HC0009, honoring Blank for her outstanding service to the State of Indiana.
