For the most part, the collection consists of both positive and negative images of letters written by Silas Clark to David Williams and David Charters from 1861 to 1865. Little attention is given to camp life, the emphasis falling more to details of battle. Specific geographic references are given (e.g. Grafton, city of Buchanan, Huttonville, Clarksburgh, Wheeling, Rich Mountain, Monogahela River, Pensacola) although the names of states are commonly omitted.
