Also included are newspaper clippings and brochures, relating to international, national, state and local topics.

Note: The subject titles in the collection inventory were largely taken directly from those on the original wrappers and include outdated terms.

Indianapolis Times subscription receipt

Scope and Contents This collection includes a September 17, 1940 receipt for a subscription to the Indianapolis Times. The receipt was part of a contest regarding new subscribers, with "All Aboard for Niagara Falls" printed at the top of the receipt and "Times Carriers' Greatest Vacation Trip" printed at the bottom.

Scope and Contents This collection includes letters to and fron Isaac Jenkinson with politicians and acquaintances in Washington, D.C., Indiana, and other parts of the United States ranging from 1869 to 1920 regarding national politics, education, various personal and professional matters, and his writings on Aaron Burr. There are two certificates regarding the appointment of Jenkinson as U.S. consul to Glasgow, Scotland, Great Britain and its acknowledgement by the British government in 1869 (OBC157).

James A. Seaton, California Gold Rush articles

Scope and Contents This collection includes copies of a newspaper’s reprint of a diary kept in 1850 by James A. Seaton traveling from Indiana to California to participate in the California Gold Rush. The newspaper only includes excerpts from the diary with minimal annotations. The folder contains 11 documents and the publications from August 1, 1942 until August 6, 1942.

John Scott biography

Scope and Contents This collection contains typewritten copies of part 1 and part 2 of "John Scott, Frontier Printer and Editor," an article written by Dr. Donald F. Carmony, a history professor and director of the Indiana University Extension Center at South Bend. Published in the February and March 1950 issues of The Indiana Publisher, Scott's biography was part of a series of sketches about pioneer newspaper editors in Indiana.

John Upfold Pettit papers

Scope and Contents This collection includes original letters from John Upforld Pettit, ranging from 1840 to 1853, addressed to his brother, Milton Howard Pettit, including several while serving as American consul at Maranham, Brazil (1850-1853). Also included is Pettit's 1979 publication, "Answer to the Toast, The Old Psi Upsilon."
