Scope and Contents This collection has a photostat of a return of the 2nd Division of Volunteers for April 1848, commanded by Brig. Gen. Thomas Marshall. On legal-size paper are six typed pages by Leonard Swett requesting a pension for his Mexican War service. George C. Chalou, Military Archives Division, sent a letter to Kay Carpenter, Tacoma, Washington, on May 8, 1973, which gives information about Mr. Swett's army service. Scope and Contents The collection consists of a typed copy of a letter which William R. Haddon wrote, on July 4, 1853, to Col. Davis. The letter is a response to some unfavorable communications he had received regarding the actions of the 2nd Indiana Regiment, Indiana Volunteers, during the Battle of Buena Vista.
