The slightly smaller document is dated April 13, 1836, and is written by Samuel Fleming of Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. Samuel promises to pay Stephen Swaine "of the same place" $800.00 for Lot #50 in the Borough of Richmond.

The second document has entries starting in 1827 and ending in 1842, listing payments made by Stephen Swaine to Dr. A. Alexander until the account was settled.
