Scope and Contents The collection consists of family letters of the Beeler family ranging from 1823 to 1850. The letters relate to family activities, description of Illinois legislature, and general correspondence. The collection also contains two letters from a World War I soldier. Scope and Contents The collection includes the contents of four scrapbooks documenting Baltzell’s career, particularly as a federal judge presiding over murder, bootlegging, and other cases, including the murder trial of George W. Barrett for killing an FBI agent (1935-1936). Also included is a notebook listing his cases with names of jurors and trial outcomes (1932-1935).
