Scope and Contents This collection contains a photocopy of a handwritten poem, "Hoosier Volunteer," composed by Robert M. Kidwell and dated October 26, 1861. Kidwell was a private in Company E, 34th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and he wrote the poem shortly after enlisting and sent it to his mother as a remembrance of him.
