Scope and Contents This collection contains letters related to the struggle between white settlers and Native Americans over the land known as the Northwest Territory and, eventually, the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. Items in this collection are copies of materials found at the Chicago Historical Society. Correspondents include J. Whistler, Abimael Nicoll, Thomas Cushing, James Rhea, John Whipple, Jacob Kingsbury, and Nathan Heald. Also included are inventories of men and equipment taken by James Rhea.

Scope and Contents This collection includes five original Fort Wayne, Indiana land grants ranging from 1836 to 1837, and one original warranty deed from 1857, from Ethel Peck. The land grant dated April 5, 1836 is stamped "President Andrew Jackson". The land grants dated March 15, 1837; March 20, 1837; and August 1, 1837 are stamped "President Martin Van Buren." The warranty deed is dated January 22, 1857.

Scope and Contents Collection includes original letter handwritten by future President Franklin Pierce from Hillsborough, New Hampshire, on November 27, 1829, to Colonel Abel C. Pepper of Rising Sun, Indiana. The letter indicates that Franklin Pierce and Abel Pepper were close friends at the time. In 1829 Col. Pepper had been appointed sub-Indian agent at Fort Wayne by General Andrew Jackson, hence the letter was forwarded to Fort Wayne, Indiana
