Scope and Contents This collection includes the handwritten "Reminiscences of Army Life" by Addison Sleeth. His 173-page memoir begins with his enlistment in Company G, 52 Indiana Volunteer Regiment on October 28, 1861 and continues through to his mustering out on September 10, 1865 at Montgomery, Alabama and his trip home. The memoir is undated, but there is a handwritten entry added to the last page that notes Sleeth's death on September 18, 1912 at 7:30 p.m. The collection also includes a set of photocopies of...

Mark Robinson diary

Scope and Contents This collection includes one diary by Mark Robinson during 1864 regarding military life in the 52nd Indiana Regiment.

Chaplain Robinson's first entry is January 22, 1864: "Left Fort Pillow at 12 1/2 o'clock." They arrived at Vicksburg on January 27th. Mark wrote: "a ruff looking place, the greater part of the town built on the bluff." On the pages for March 26th and 27th, he listed items he purchased in Cincinnati and the cost, which totaled $81.20.
