Scope and Contents This collection consists of 22 letters to Emma from Indianapolis poet and newspaperman Daniel L. Paine (1830-1895), regarding Indianapolis life, the works of other Indiana writers, including James Whitcomb Riley, and advice on Carleton’s writing (1889-1895). Dated June 1947 and sent with two copies of her "little book of poems," the letter mentioned that visitors were welcome and included directions on how to find her home.
