This collection includes a typed transcript of letter from Mathias Masten to his son Darius Masten in Hendricks County, Indiana on November 14, 1842, regarding farming and the family's health. There is also a typed, one-page transcript of a letter from Cyrus Masten on June 26, 1932 to a columnist with a biography that was published in the Indianapolis Star that same day. The document was signed by Verne Masten, the likely transcriptionist, and dated February 11, 1936.

Origen Thomson biographical sketch

This single typed paper gives a short biography of Origen Thomson (1829-1882), who followed several career paths. He attended Decatur County Seminary and Hanover College. From 1850-1852, he studied medicine with Dr. Moody. Origen lived in Oregon for six years in the 1850s. He and his brother Orville published the Hoosier State newspaper in Lawrenceburg from 1858-1860. He was a surveyor for railroads and involved in the stone quarry business in Greensburg. Mr. Thomson was a Presbyterian.
