Most of the letters were written by William Innis to his wife, Mary Ann during the Civil War, but there are also some letters from other correspondents, presumably members of their extended family. Towner in Indiana--including a bound photostat, loose photostats, and xeroxed pages of the preface and first chapter--regarding his trip to the California Gold Rush during 1849-1850. The last entry is about his visit to the Art Union gallery in Cincinnati and the Greek slave statue, which was on exhibit there.
