Scope and Contents This collection contains a transcript of an oral history tape made with Gerald Hanfield, Indiana State Library. Bircher describes boyhood in rural Indiana, his teaching methods, and school discipline. Birchler worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration in the 1930 and he discusses Prohibition and the Depression and its effects on farming. At the time of this interview, he lived in the house he and his wife built in 1913, and he talks about designing and building this home. In the...
