Scope and Contents This typed manuscript has 61 pages copied from the books kept by Irvin Stratton, the first Superintendent of Schools in Wabash County, from 1873-1875, with summaries done in 1879-1880. Mr. Stratton wrote the location of the school, the teacher, the number of pupils, and his observations. In Addie Carver's class of 58 pupils, a switch was kept to punish students in "emergencies" (page 1). Prof. Baker's class in LaGro had "too many idle pupils" and they "spit upon the floor" (page 2).
