Scope and Contents There are two items in this collection: the original May 25, 1839 letter and a copy of the letter on four long sheets of paper. The letter was sent to Oscar Spaulding's cousin, Granville M. Whitney (1816-1848) in Ludlow, Windsor County, Vermont. Oscar tells Granville that they are farming 80 acres in Lima, LaGrange County, Indiana. They have 50 head of cattle, 5 horses, 2 colts, and 27 hogs.
