The first letter from John Frazier in Dublin, Indiana, was to his children and grandchildren, and was addressed to Joseph Hussey in Carmel, Indiana. Scope and Contents This collection contains a recommendation letter for Alas Evans dated September 24, 1849. The letter states that Evans was a "young man of color" of good moral character and it certified that he was a "free man" who intended to travel to the western states. The letter is signed by Elisha Coffin and 21 other citizens of Randolph County, North Carolina.
