Scope and Contents This collection consists of twenty four letters written by William Woodward from September 1847 to September 1848 and sent to family members in Middletown, Connecticut and New York. The first two letters were written from Buffalo, New York and Cleveland, Ohio and describe his travels by railroad, steamer, and stage to Michigan City, Indiana. William Y. Monroe letter

Scope and Contents This collection contains a March 18, 1863 letter sent to John Rector and written by W.Y. (William) Monroe from Triune, Tennessee. John Rector had returned home from serving with Company A, 82nd Indiana Infantry and Monroe was a captain in the company. Monroe mentions that Dan Marshall was dead, Cal Jillett was much better, and Isaac Elliott was sick. He also mentions that a box came the day after Rector left and he, Sam Rector, and "a number of the boys" had feasted on the contents.
