Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of Hiram Maine's family correspondence and his Civil War letters. After the Civil War, correspondence also consists of Maine's newspaper work, letters from the Chicago Express, labor unions, and letters to stockholders in the La Cobriza Mining Company in Sonora, Mexico. Correspondence ranges from 1844 to 1918 from throughout the United States, most notably Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kansas.
