This collection includes one handwritten letter from William Kirkpatrick Edwards in Indiana to Colonel Thomas Dowling on June 6, 1865. Edwards states he has already written to Samuel Crawford and that Mr. Rise wants Dowling as a candidate for the legislature. Edwards states if Dowling enters his name “in the canvass”, Edwards promises that he will show an interest in railroads and canals and that he will work hard not to be defeated.

This collection includes a June 11, 1861 letter written by W.R. Holloway, private secretary of Indiana Governor Oliver P. Morton, and sent to a Colonel Miller in response to Miller's request to the governor for a regiment appointment for his friend. Holloway also mentioned that once "one company reports from your county in accordance with the Militia Law you will be appointed" and that Governor Morton had gone to New York.
