Lionel Wiggam speech

Scope and Contents This collection contains the typewritten acceptance speech that Lionel Wiggam gave at the Indiana Authors' Day in Bloomington, Indiana on April 8, 1962. Wiggam was given the award for most distinguished book of poetry by a Hoosier author published in 1961 for his book The Land of Unloving. His remarks during his speech were a tribute to the librarians who helped and guided him in his youth.

Robert M. Kidwell "Hoosier Volunteer" poem

Scope and Contents This collection contains a photocopy of a handwritten poem, "Hoosier Volunteer," composed by Robert M. Kidwell and dated October 26, 1861. Kidwell was a private in Company E, 34th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and he wrote the poem shortly after enlisting and sent it to his mother as a remembrance of him.
