Biographical / Historical
Karl Theodore Stempfel was born in Ulm, Wurttemberg, Germany on September 20, 1862, to Thomas and Luise Stempfel. He immigrated to the United States in 1883. Theodore Stempfel married Floretta Koster October 8, 1885, and they had Theodore, and Bruno Stempfel. She died in August of 1891. On June 12, 1895, he married Anna Lieber, and they had Robert and Anna Stempfel. Theodore Stempfel worked for several Indianapolis area businesses and for a time was vice president of the Fletcher American National Bank. He was the president of the North American Gymnastics Union and was an Indianapolis Public Schools Board member from 1916 to 1920. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Literary Club, the Atheneum and the Indianapolis Turners. Theodore Stempfel died December 24, 1935, in Indianapolis.
