Biographical Note

Elizabeth Lee Schurtz was born on September 3, 1936 in Indianapolis to Robert William Smelzer and Ida Jane Waltz. She graduated from Arsenal Technical School in 1954. Elizabeth attended Butler University where she received her Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Studies and History. She taught at Arlington High School until 1981 when she retired. She was married twice, the second time to William R. Schurtz. She died July 3, 2015 after a three year battle with cancer.
