Biographical / Historical

Helen Eaton Jacoby was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 28, 1888, to Elias J. and Julia Lillian (Eaton) Jacoby. She graduated from the Emmerich Manual Training High School in June of 1905 and attended the University of Chicago, graduating in 1909 with a B.A. Jacoby later attended the Pratt Institute and received a third-year certificate of Drawing, Painting and Illustration in 1911. She married Harry Wright Evard June 12, 1940, in Indianapolis. Jacoby was an artist with a varied career, ranging from illustrations and miniatures to the design of the Egyptian frieze for the Murat Temple in 1922. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, the Fortnightly Literary Club, and the Government Science Club. She started working on her genealogy in 1920 and continued working on throughout the rest of her life. She died August 19, 1967 in Indianapolis and is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.
