Biographical / Historical

Phoebe Jane Harrison was born in Rush County on January 31, 1916, to Ben and Glendora Harrison. After graduating from Greensburg High School, she accepted a position with Union Bank and Trust Company. During World War II, Phoebe Jane was a civilian employee of the Unites States Air Force and worked at Wright-Patterson and later the Pentagon. After the War she joined the staff of the public relations firm Whitaker and Baxter in Chicago. For over twenty-two years she was employed in clinical research at Eli Lilly and Company. In 1975 she took medical retirement and moved back to Greensburg. Phoebe Jane waws active in church and community affairs belong to the First Presbyterian Church and active in women's organizations; Psi Iota Xi and Chapter T of P.E.O. She was a member of the Children of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Children’s Museum. She had an interest in her Harrison ancestors and traced them back to the 1700s. Phoebe Jane enjoyed ballet and followed performances all over the US. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad where she visited the United Kingdom, Europe, Greek Isles, the Holy Land, South America, and China.
