Historical Note

The post office in Vigo County, Indiana was first established on May 17, 1844. George Wood was the first postmaster of the Vigo Post Office. However, the Post Office was discontinued on September 22, 1846 only to be re-established on April 2, 1884 under the Postmaster Eli R. Crites. The Vigo Post Office had two subsequent postmasters, William B. Hunt (appointed January 25, 1886) and Curtis S. Watson (appointed May 15, 1889), before being discontinued again on November 15, 1905.
