This collection contains the journals of Joseph Jenckes, beginning in January of 1821 and continuing through October of 1822. Jenckes includes accounts of work accomplished by hired farm hands, weather conditions, and social life in Vigo County.

Biographical Note

Joseph Jenckes lived in Providence Rhode Island with his wife, Mary, and their children. His sons began migrating west in 1816 in order to establish a farm in Indiana. Jenckes soon followed suit, migrating to the land purchased by his sons in Vigo County, Indiana circa 1820.
