Biographical Note

Lois Jean Flora was born to Emory B. and Bertha Mary (Quirk) Flora on August 16, 1921 in Delphi, Indiana. They family moved to Indianapolis when she was still a young child and attended First Presbyterian Church. Flora attended the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music as a teenager and graduated from Shortridge High School. She served in the U.S. military from July 30, 1943 to April 19, 1946 and achieved the rank of lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. She worked as a recptionist at an advertising agency in Indianapolis in 1950. Flora married Arthur Wayne Guernsey (1920-1979), a publishing company vice president, on October 4, 1975 in Indianapolis. Lois Guernsey died on March 9, 1996 and was buried in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana.

Emory B. Flora was born September 29, 1884 to Levi (1858-19907) and Anna Jane (Cripe) Flora (1860-1939). In 1910, he was living in Pasadena, California where he worked at a grocery store. He married Bertha Mary Quirk on June 2, 1917 in Logansport, Indiana and they had a daughter, Lois Jean (1921-1996). He worked as an insurance agent in 1918 in Delphi, Indiana. In 1930, he worked as a dry cleaner in Indianapolis, Indiana. Flora died on April 6, 1937 in Indianapolis and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana.
