Historical Note

The Indiana Nutrition Campaign (INC) was started in 1976 as a food stamp outreach and advocacy organization by the National Child Nutrition Project of New Jersey. After the first year, the INC became independent and expanded its mission to include organizing to improve and expand the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), the School Breakfast Program, and to resolve other food issues. The INC also sponsored, organized or participated in a number of workshops and speaking engagements and conducted numerous local and state-wide training events on domestic hunger issues, community organizing and skills building. The non-profit received funding from the Community Services Administration, community fund-raising events, and donations from other charitable organizations. Due to a two-thirds cut in its funding base, the Indiana Nutrition Campaign closed its doors in October 1982.
