Biographical / Historical
Ralph W. Shackelford was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 31, 1909. He was a life-long resident of Broad Ripple. His parents were Artie L. and Mary Bessie (Van Scyoc) Shackelford. Mary Bessie's parents were John Wesley and Martha Ann Bradley Van Scyoc. John W. Van Scyoc was a Marion County justice of the peace, owner of threshing business, and a business management advisor.
Ralph Shackelford became an inventory manager at Naval Avionics Center and a route supervisor for the Indianapolis Star. He was an active Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was also active in the Broad Ripple Methodist Church.
