Administrative History
The Indiana Association of Accredited Flower Show Judges was organized in Indianapolis, Indiana following the Flower Show School held in February 1949. Mrs. John Downing of Mooresville, Indiana, President of the Garden Club of Indiana from 1947 to 1949, presided at the meeting. Mrs. Thomas Ayton of Indianapolis, Indiana and Mrs. Chester Steed of Red Key, Indiana were elected president and secretary-treasurer. Thirty Garden Club members who were nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges signed the membership roster at the meeting.
The purpose of the organization was to make it possible for the group to study advanced theories in horticulture and flower arrangement. The constitution and by-laws approved November 9, 1949, added a) to interpret the standardized judging rules, c) to have available a list of accredited judges in Indiana and d) to furnish information or help necessary to the promotion of more efficient flower shows.
The association is still active as of 2012.
