Scope and Contents
This collection includes correspondence, photographs, and other papers from members of the Huston, Hopkins, and Lamb families in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and other areas throughout the United States and Europe (during World War II), ranging from 1881 to 1964 and undated, regarding family matters and genealogy, illness, Waveland Public Library, the Waveland Indepdent newspaper, and contemporary politics. The main correspondents were T. E. Huston, Lou Huston, Joseph Huston, and Mial E. Lamb. Some letters are addressed to other family members, but most were sent to Nella Lamb. Also included are postcards and greeting cards from 1909 to the 1950s, material regarding the Waveland Brown Township Public Library, and photographs of the family.

Biographical Note
Ellen Tabitha "Nella" Huston Lamb was born April 25, 1877 in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas E. and Clara Ellen Largent Huston and the eldest with two younger brothers, Joseph and Albert. After her mother's death in 1895, her father married her mother's sister, Louise "Lou" Hopkins. Nella was the first librarian at the Waveland Brown Township library from when it was established in 1915 until 1919. Her aunt Louise Huston also served as librarian there from 1925 to 1952. Louise Huston and T. E. Huston were the publishers of the local paper, the Waveland Independent, from 1924 until 1955 when it was sold. Nella married Mial Elias Lamb in 1917 and they lived various places throughout the country, including Kansas and Illinois, before returning to Waveland. They remained in Waveland until Nella Huston Lamb's death in 1964.
