Historical Note
THe National Conference on State Parks was founded in 1921 as an organization for issues related to state parks and their administration and nature conservation. The organization met annually, holding its annual meetings at multiple Indiana state parks throughout the years. The organization became defunct in 1974.
The organization met at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, Indiana on May 15, 1940, after opening the conference at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois on May 13. On the way to Spring Mill, delegates toured and inspected various Illinois and Indiana state parks, including Turkey Run and McCormick's Creek.
