Historical Note
The Hoosier Scramble golf tournament was an annual fundraising event held by the Indiana Republican Party. The first event was held at the Speedway Golf Course in Marion County, Indiana in 1975 and featured professional golfer Arnold Palmer, who was paid $12,500 for the appearance. He played and conducted a golf clinic and exhibition. Entries cost $1,000 for a foursome, while gallery tickets cost $10 each. The organization raised $20,000 at the event. The event was conceived by Republican Finance Director Charles T. Cook. Golf champion Nancy Lopez was the featured player at the Hoosier Scramble in 1979.
